We took the girls to the water park in Hastings one day. Way more fun that I would have imagined because I have "issues" with water parks. (Remember, I'm a bit OCD!) Those kinda things really ick me out if I think about them too much! We had an (early) birthday pool party for Marah last Friday. We ended up inviting a bunch of family friends to swim with us, too. We had cupcakes and goldfish crackers for snacks and then everybody got wet! We went to the Elwood Fair and Rodeo on Saturday. They have the best fair around. So cheap and it's a small community so you don't feel bad if one kiddo wants to ride the swings and one kiddo wants to ride the octopus...you just let 'em go! My brothers team roped in the rodeo, but my oldest brother ended up getting hurt. Four ribs with hairline fractures. Ouch! On Sunday, we went to Johnson Lake for an unexpected overnight stay. (Thanks Aunt Julie and Aunt Goldie for all the fun!) The best part is that we came home to find that it had rained over the weekend! Whoo Hoo!
That's what summer is really about...coming and going with no particular time to be anywhere. It's a good thing we've been enjoying the laid-back days of summer because the fact that summer is quickly winding down was apparent by the postcard that came in the mail today:
Yep. Marah got a postcard from her 1st Grade teacher today. I'm really excited for her since this is the teacher I was secretly hoping she'd have this year. Anyway, this little note got me to thinking about who my teachers were so I'm making a list. It's funny to think that I don't even know some of their first names...I don't think I knew they had first names at the time! So here goes:
Kindergarten - Mrs. Lavonne Schuller
1st - Mrs. Waunetta Weaver
2nd - Mr. Duran
3rd - Ms. Anderson and Mrs. Selle (we moved at some point during the year)
4th - Mrs. Brown
5th - Mrs. Blecha
6th - Mrs. Rosemary Cruise
7th - 12th
Science - Mrs. Nina Straatman
Geography - Mr. Mark Freburg
Typing/Accounting/PE - Mr. Jon Karn
American History - Mrs. Carol Anderberry
Math - Mrs. Lanette Gleason
English/Speech - Mr. Terry Larsen
Music - Mrs. Carol Wiebe
Art - Mrs. Stephanie Rodenbaugh
Journalism - Mrs. Linda Knox
French - Mrs. Julie Johnson
Shop/Drafting - Mr. Dennis Reese
Home Ec - Mrs. Nancy Cruise
I always enjoyed school and my girls do, too. It sure makes it easier to send them back to school. We've got a few more things to buy before the big day, but otherwise I think we're in good shape. I'm not looking forward to school starting yet, but it will come whether I like it or not so here's to the last few weeks of summer vacation and to a great school year for all!
